Suzanne Rich Folsom joined U. S. Steel in February 2014 to serve as general counsel and senior vice president - Governmental Affairs.  In this role, she is responsible for the company’s legal, regulatory, compliance and corporate governance matters, and provides executive leadership to the company’s worldwide public policy and government affairs initiatives.

Prior to joining U. S. Steel, Mrs. Folsom served as executive vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of ACADEMI LLC, a leading global innovative security solutions provider to the federal government and commercial clients, where she transformed the legal and compliance program, setting a gold standard for that industry.

Previously, Mrs. Folsom held the role of deputy general counsel and chief regulatory and compliance officer for the American International Group (AIG), where she established and implemented best-in-class regulatory and compliance processes, helping to remediate the company’s material weaknesses.  Prior to AIG, she served as counselor to the president of the World Bank Group and director of its Department of Institutional Integrity, where she was charged with responsibility for leading the bank’s global anti-corruption initiatives.  In addition, Mrs. Folsom previously practiced law with O’Melveny & Myers LLP and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, and served as the chief of staff to Her Majesty Queen Noor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, special assistant to First Lady Barbara Bush and chief of staff to the co-chairman of the Republican National Committee.

In March 2014, Mrs. Folsom was named Leader of the Year at the 2014 Women in Compliance Awards, an international recognition of her contributions in the area of corporate governance and compliance. In 2013, Corporate Secretary Magazine awarded Mrs. Folsom its 2013 Governance Professional of the Year Award; Ethisphere Institute named her to its 2013 “Attorneys Who Matter-Top General Counsel” list; and Inside Counsel Magazine recognized her as one of the 2013 Top 100 Female In-House Counsel.

Mrs. Folsom serves on the advisory board of Global Leaders in Law, the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association chapter Global Issues Forum Committee, is co-chair of Inside Counsel Magazine’s 2014 Women, Influence, Power in the Law Conference, and remains actively involved in a number of charitable endeavors.

Mrs. Folsom is a graduate of Duke University and Georgetown University Law Center.
